WHO IS EMMA HERKES?

Emma has been working in the music industry since the late 1980s - firstly as Director of Legal and Business Affairs and International Licensing for BCM Records (1987 - 1989) then at Dance Street in Germany (1990 - 2000).

After doing the international business for 2 labels for such a long time and having been approached by many labels and producers about international representation, she decided to start up a business as a deal broker in May 2000.

WHY DO YOU NEED A DEAL BROKER?

As many producers have learned over the years, it is not always a good move to sign worldwide licensing deals with one record company. If the record is not successful in the main territory, then the company rarely achieves foreign license deals and does not work the productions properly in foreign territories. Producers are then stuck with a deal for the world, where a release is unfortunately only achieved in 1-3 territories.

Nowadays we all see how the music industry is shrinking and how difficult it is to get a deal at all! So why put all your hopes in one market?

Emma has shown that even if a deal is not signed in the home territory, or the record has no success there, it is possible to achieve a number of releases in foreign territories and have chart hits too!

She assists various German labels and producers to license out their productions worldwide based on experience and excellent contacts built up worldwide over a period of 17 years. She also now helps companies outside Germany, handling productions from Canada, UK, Scandinavia, South Africa etc. to achieve deals worldwide too!

Through working with top producers and DJs, she is able to test records in clubs and get DJs reactions and not just rely on her gut feeling "will this work or not?". Through these connections, wider spectrums are opened with the possibility of remix work, DJ tours etc.

HOW DOES EMMA WORK ?

a) She can either place the productions and establish the deals for you and you handle the rest thereafter - ie. contracts, promotion, accounting etc.

or

b) she can handle the whole package - from mail-out, deal, contracts, all promotion and daily administration, accounting etc. and then just calculate everything on to you, leaving you free to produce your records etc. in peace and quiet, forget time differences, knowing that your business is being taken care of.

According to the type of deal made, Emma then takes a split on all income arising from the deals which she closes for you. This split is established with you before any business takes place.

WHAT KIND OF MUSIC?

Contacts and deals are being closed worldwide in the following genres - Pop, Dance, House, Trance, Techno, Chill-Out, Lounge, Ambient.
